Candidate for the 23rd Congressional District Matt Doheny today called Congressman Bill Owens’ (D-Plattsburgh) acceptance of the Working Families Party endorsement “troubling,” because of the controversial organization’s overwhelming focus on New York City issues and residents.

Matt has signed a pledge to “Repeal It!” – promising that as Congressman from New York’s 23rd District he will act to repeal the health care legislation Democrats pushed through Congress earlier this year, and replace it with reforms that “lower health care costs without growing government.”

Matt thought he had visited every town, village, and hamlet in Franklin County – from Bangor to Westville – during his campaign for Congress. But during a visit with the staff at the Malone Telegram, he checked out the map on their wall and realized he and his truck “Bessie” had missed a stop: Skerry!

Matt Doheny celebrated the Fourth of July with residents from across the 23rd Congressional District, attending parades in Sandy Creek, Morristown, Rouses Point, Plattsburgh and Hamilton, as well as attending fireworks and events in Brewerton and Sylvan Beach.

The state Independence Party, the third largest political organization in New York, is backing Republican Matthew A. Doheny in the 23rd Congressional District race.

"Matt Doheny's is a fresh voice," party Chairman Frank M. MacKay said in a news release. "And his commitment to less government intrusion, reduced taxes and more job opportunities is right in line with our party's priorities."
